Summary: Currently the main focus of my work is managing the LIME involvement in the EU FP7 Learning Layers research project.

Location: Worsley Building

Overview

Currently the main focus of my work is on managing LIME’s involvement in the Learning Layers project. Learning Layers is a 4 year, large-scale research project co-funded by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme as part of the Technology Enhanced Learning call.

The project focus is on understanding learning at the workplace and developing a set of modular and flexible technologies for supporting this workplace learning. LIME’s involvement focuses on understanding and supporting workplace learning in primary care.

I have 18 years experience of research and project management in Higher Education, managing large-scale, collaborative programmes with a focus on practice-based learning, technology enhanced learning, online learning for small to medium-sized enterprises and knowledge transfer.

I worked for 8 years on research projects in the area of computer based learning research developing software to support mathematical learning and assessment as well as  undertaking qualitative research studies using discourse analysis to investigate how computer mediated communication could support students’ development of critical writing skills.

Following this I moved into project and research management with a focus on technology and learning. This involved leading a series of EU funded (ESF and ERDF) projects in the Faculty of Engineering working with small to medium-sized enterprises, as well as projects that developed and evaluated online learning courses.

In 2008 I moved to the School of Medicine to take up the role of Mobile Technologies Project Manager and ultimately the Programme Manager of the ALPS programme (http://www.alps-cetl.ac.uk/), which developed mobile technologies to support undergraduate medical education and evaluated the use of these technologies by students in 5 universities. This work led into my current role as Senior Strategist and Project Manager of the Learning Layers project for LIME.
