Summary: Gail is an Associate Professor in Primary Care. She is also Director of Admissions for the School of Medicine and oversees the School's Widening Participation activities

Gail is an Associate Professor in Primary Care, with a background in general practice. She has been at the University of Leeds for 10 years where she is Director of Admissions for the MBChB and widening participation academic lead for the School. Her main teaching responsibilities sit within the undergraduate medical course, she is ICU Manager for Year 1 Campus to Clinic; a course which encompasses preparation for clinical practice with communication skills, ethics and law and clinical skills teaching along with placement time in both Primary and Secondary Care. She provides some teaching on the Allied Health Suite Intercalated BSc and is also a supervisor for student BSc projects.
She is an elected member of the Medical Schools Council Selection Alliance board. This board is responsible for implementing the recommendations in the Selecting for Excellence final report and for setting the strategic direction of the Selection Alliances work across the UK.
Her team has presented on a GP work experience model which places applicants to medicine from a widening participation background in placements with supportive workshops at the University pre and post. This model, underpinned by evaluative research, is being rolled out across several regions in the UK and her team have been commissioned to develop their learning gain tool and reflective diary for national use. Additionally the model has been trialled in secondary care and they are exploring the expansion into other health care professions.
She is an external examiner for Year 1 and 2 of the undergraduate medical course at Lancaster University and has been appointed a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
