David Owens is an Associate Professor in the Academic Unit of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences within Leeds Institute of Health Sciences.
Previously a Clinical Psychiatrist, he is one of the principal teachers on the large postgraduate programme Health Research, which he set up in 1999.
He has a longstanding research interest in the epidemiology of self-harm and suicide and he has undertaken much funded and published research on the topic.
He was formerly a Lecturer and a Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry in Leeds and a psychiatric Clinical Trainee in Nottingham.
He is an external examiner at the University of Manchester.
