Teaching Commitments: I have recently written the ESC guidelines for training in CMR (Plein, EHJ 2010). Training and quality control will be major challenges in this context and I contribute to the expansion of local, national and international CMR training opportunitites. I chair the education committee of the EuroCMR working group, set the European CMR accreditation examination and lecture on the official ESC-endorsed CMR training course (www.cmr-course.de) in addition to our own bi-annual CMR course in Leeds (www.cmr.leeds.ac.uk).

Research Area

My research is focused on developing MRI methods for the assessment of ischaemeic heart disease and heart failure. In particular our group has developed methods for myocardial perfusion and coronary MRI. In clinical applications, these and other methods are being applied to patients with acute and stable coronary symptoms and various aetiologies of heart failure.
