Professor David Wood PhD

Primary research theme: Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering

David Wood gained BSc Honours (2i) Materials Science from Thames Polytechnic in 1988 and a PhD in Biomaterials Science from the University of Greenwich in 1993, under a CASE Award from the Laboratory of the Government Chemist.  He is Professor of Biomaterials in Relation to Dentistry and leads the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Research Theme at Leeds School of Dentistry.   

He has published some 70+ papers and reviews and has supervised some 10+ PhD students and 40+ MSc students. He is a member of the UK Dental Materials Panel and of MPNS COST Action MP1301 ‘New Generation Biomimetic and Customized Implants for Bone Engineering’ which will start in 2013. He is also a regular speaker at national and international conferences and is a referee for a number of international journals and grant awarding bodies.

David Wood has acted as external examiner for some 10+ PHD students in the UK and internationally.  He has established significant research links with the Universities of Michigan and Osaka and headed up the Japanese Regional Working Group for the University of Leeds.
