The School of Medicine welcomes applications for clinical placements by visiting students from medical schools both in the UK and abroad. These placements will involve being attached to a named consultant in one of the hospitals of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Visiting students will be encouraged to observe, and where appropriate contribute to, the clinical activities undertaken by their supervising consultant and his or her team. No formal teaching will be provided.
Applications will be accepted between November and January of the year the elective is requested.
Elective placements are only available between June and September. It is therefore essential that dates given in the initial application are accurate.
Elective placements must be not less than 4 weeks and no more than six weeks in total. Electives are only available in one speciality and cannot be split. Please note that due to limited spaces, only one placement is allowed at Leeds.
Erasmus and Erasmus +
We are not able to enter into and sign Erasmus or Erasmus+ agreements, as we are not fully able to guarantee meeting the requirements. Nor are we able to offer internships or placements of more than six weeks in duration.
A Tier 4 visa is required for Visiting Elective students who are non UK EU/EAA citizens. The University of Leeds is a host sponsor and CAS numbers (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) can be sought when an elective has been confirmed. Students must ensure that they have a current (within the last two years) English IELTS certification with an overall score of 7.00 or equivalent in TOEFL, Pearson, Cambridge advanced or Trinity College before applying and also submit the ID pages of their passport during the online application process. Applicants who cannot supply both of these documents at the application stage will not be considered for an elective.
There is no charge for these electives and students will not receive any payment
