Tim Ensor is Professor of Health Systems Research and Head of the Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development. From 2013 to 2016 he was Director of the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences.
Tim's work as a health economist focuses primarily on health financing in low and middle income countries particularly relating to maternal health, informal healthcare markets and sources of financing, including the design and evaluation of mechanisms to overcome financial barriers to health service access.
Prior to coming to Leeds, he was principal economist at Oxford Policy Management and before that worked at the University of York.
He has experience of working in more than 30 countries across Asia, Africa and the Former Soviet Union. He was Senior Economist Advisor in the Health Economics of Unit of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in Bangladesh from 1999 to 2001.
