Susanne is an NIHR Post-Doc Fellow and is currently undertaking a Realist Evaluation of Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Instruments. Other recent work involves a national Pressure Ulcer and Wounds Audit (PUWA) considering the accuracy of PU monitoring systems in NHS in-patient facilities in England and work to develop a minimum data set for wound assessment practice. Susanne is also a project team and methodology group member for the international COMET registered core outcomes project ‘Outcomes for Pressure Ulcer Trials’ (OUTPUTS).
Susanne led the NIHR PURPOSE risk assessment work package to develop a new evidence based risk assessment instrument for the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, while undertaking a related PhD which she completed in October 2014. The work led to Susanne receiving the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) 2015 Novice Investigator Award in recognition of early career achievements relevant to pressure ulcers and the Project team winning the Journal of Wound Care 2015 Wound Assessment and Diagnostics Award recognising innovation and excellence in research and practice.
Susanne qualified as a registered general nurse in 1991 and worked for the NHS till 2008. She worked clinically in acute elderly care medicine, held senior nursing roles to develop clinical practice in the acute sector, was a clinical governance manager and contract manager in primary care and also has experience of managing a disabled living/mobility centre in the voluntary sector.
