Recent research work has focused on the spread of hospital acquired infections, specifically investigating the transmission of C. difficile infection (CDI) using whole genome sequencing (WGS). The data from this project has been used to establish new insights into CDI epidemiology and demonstrates how WGS relates to traditional Clostridium difficile typing techniques. Additionally, I have written several review articles and book chapters on CDI relating to epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment. Current research interests include hospital epidemiology of other infections; catheter related blood stream infections, and the transmission of Klebsiella penumoniae carbapenemase (KPC) producing Enterobacteriaceae, a new and significant threat to hospital inpatients in the UK.
