I am a lecturer in social work and a qualified social worker with many years experience working with children and families. I have a first degree in sociology, a Masters degree in Child Protection & Welfare Studies and a PhD
My doctoral research was a study of social workers' decision making in child protection work. I am particularly interested in studying how professionals form judgements and make decisions in everyday practice using a range of qualitative methods, particularly ethnography. Currently I am engaged in a study of how mobile technology plays a part in the negotiation of caring and befriending relationships in social care
I teach on the BA and MA in Social Work and on the School's Postgraduate Research Methods module. My teaching areas are: working with children & families, sociological perspectives such as the social model of disability, inter professional working and research methods.
I supervise a number of students engaged in research at Masters and doctoral levels
