Paula is a qualified Registered General Nurse having trained in Essex. She has worked as a staff nurse on general medicine and surgical wards and then became a ward sister on a busy male medical ward.
Having developed a passion for teaching on the wards, she became a nurse lecturer in 1989 and has been teaching ever since. She came to the University of Leeds in 2003.
Paula has spent the last 12 years developing professionally within the sphere of diabetes and is highly motivated and totally committed to improving the lives of people with diabetes which she believes can be achieved through the delivery of high quality professional education.
To this end, she has developed and currently delivers a number of diabetes modules with various foci, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is also invited to teach patients as part of structured education programmes delivered locally.
In addition she is an elected member of the Diabetes UK Council of Healthcare Professionals and on the Annual Professional Conference Organising Committee both of which provide a platform on which the importance of professional education can be voiced and realised.
Paula also has a great deal of knowledge and skills regarding pre-registration nursing programmes and is currently the Programme Manager for the MSc Nursing with Registration programme. This is a new and creative pre-registration programme which Paula and a team of colleagues have developed and is aimed at all graduates who want to do higher level study and also gain a professional nursing qualification.
