Linda Milnes was appointed as Associate Professor of Children and Young People's Nursing in the School of Healthcare in 2015 and is a member of the Maternal, Family and Child Health Research group.

Linda's areas of interest in teaching and research are:

Long-term conditions in childhood and adolescence – e.g. adolescents with asthma, particularly in relation to supporting the development of self-care skills, interventions to support self-care, communication,  provision of self-care support, parental, child, adolescent and health care professionals perceptions and experiences, transition to independence, mental health in adolescence and health behaviour change. 

Participation in health care consultations – Linda has a specific interest in young people’s participation, e.g. developing interventions to support participatory communication skills in asthma reviews, developing evidence based health information, partnerships in personalised action planning, health behaviour change and the development of complex interventions to support communication between young people, parents/carers and health professionals.

Linda has used a range of research designs and methods including mixed methods, case study, qualitative methods, pilot and feasibility RCTs, nominal group activities, focus groups, surveys. Linda’s PhD was funded by an NIHR doctoral fellowship and her research has led to invitations to consult on the development of interventions for children and young people in Chicago and Albany, USA and McGill University, Montreal.

Linda has extensive experience in teaching and supervising undergraduate and post-graduate students. She is currently supervising one international PhD student due to complete in 2015. Linda is a member of the international board and social media editor’s buddy for Journal of Child Health Care, a member of the national RCN Research in Child Health Core group, an NIHR Funding Programme reviewer and co-ordinator of the Research Essentials series in Nursing, Children and Young People.
