The School of Medicine has achieved a Bronze level in the latest round of the Athena SWAN Charter awards announced by the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU).
We are pleased to announce that the School has been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award. This is the culmination of a considerable amount of work by a large number of staff across the Schools seven Institutes, each of which established a Self-Assessment Team to support the work of the Schools Athena SWAN Steering Group to prepare the application. Whilst this is excellent news, this is only the half-way house as the School is committed to achieving a Silver Award by 2015. The Athena SWAN Steering Group are hard at work implementing the agreed Bronze Application Action Plan and will commence the preparation for a Silver Application early next year, with a view to submission in November 2014.
A special thanks to the members of the Athena SWAN Steering Group for their enthusiasm and commitment over the past twelve months, particularly David Cottrell and Adrian Iredale who led and co-ordinated the bid. I am delighted that the School has been recognised nationally through this Bronze Award.
