Our research addresses the needs of an aging population with life-long accumulated exposures contributing to chronic disease and associated physical and mental health co-morbidities.
In response to the health service challenge posed by multi-morbidity in the elderly, we are assessing the nature of frailty in the elderly and its impact on service use, broadening the scope of our research on mental morbidity (delirium, dementia, depression) in physical healthcare settings, and developing a programme of research in residential care homes. With a strong collaborative team we are leading development work to create a Yorkshire Care Home Research Network.
We also undertake evaluation of services for older people, for example community hospitals, day hospitals and intermediate care. We have a long-established programme of research addressing the longer term psycho-social outcomes for people and their families after stroke.
Our work is underpinned by strong national and international collaborations.
