Welcome to LIME’s Patient | Carer Community web pages

Who are we?

Although LIME has worked with patients and carers to support medical teaching for quite some time, the PCC is relatively new and has been developed by Jools Symons, Karen Ayres and Nicola Womersley with a lot of support and input from a small group of pre-existing members.

In 2011 Karen successfully applied for some funding from the Health Foundation to help develop the community.  Karen, Jools, Nicola and the patient/carer volunteers met regularly with experts from the Health Foundation to create an identity for the PCC.  A vision statement was developed as well as a formal application pack, policy documents and guidance information for new members.   The end result is a database of over 170 patients/carers who are keen to be involved in the education of “Tomorrow’s Doctors”.  The database is still growing and we always welcome new members.

We are working hard to develop relationships across the School of Medicine to create opportunities for patient involvement.  At present, the PCC is involved in activities with all 5 years of the curriculum.  You can read more about the specific activities we are involved in by visiting our Core Activities page.

One PCC member has written a poem about his reflections of being a member of the PCC.  Watch the video to hear this important message.
