For certain trials, the CTRU provides a 24/7 web data entry service using MACRO software. Occasionally this service may be taken offline for routine maintenance. Advance warning of this work will be given here.

MACRO has been validated to work with Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
Please note that Macro 4.6 will be the final release of Macro to support older versions of Internet Explorer. Since 16th January 2016 Microsoft no longer support Internet Explorer versions 7,8,9 & 10. If you currently use one of these versions please upgrade before April 2017.
Please note that MACRO is not compatible with other browsers such as Google Chrome. Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
|Security certificates||The Macro system uses data encryption to ensure transactions across the internet are secure. You will be prompted to install a certificate when you log in.|
|Cannot get to login page||If you are using an internet 'pop-up blocker' you may not be able to view the main blue MACRO log in page. You will need to turn off the pop-up blocker.|
|Closing down||Always close MACRO using the Logout link. If you close the window using the X in the top right corner of the window you may leave a patient record locked.|
|Login & passwords||Your login and password are unique and are used to log any database changes you make, This is an essential part of the data audit process. It is important that you keep your password confidential. You can change your password using the Change Password link under the main task list menu on your home page.|
|Locked records||Patient records are locked when open and fields will appear greyed out to other users. Should a record stay locked after closing, you can unlock the record using the Database Lock Administration link under the main task list menu on your home page.|
|New users||If you want to add a new user to a MACRO system you should contact the relevant Trial Co-ordinator at the CTRU. They will be able to advise on any training/licensing issues and arrange the set-up of the new user account.|
|MACs||The user of Macintosh computers is not supported in MACRO.|
|How safe is data transferred over the internet?||Data is encrypted during transfer over the internet. The level of encryption is the same as used by most banks and has been approved by regulatory bodies.|
|Session timeout||Your MACRO session will timeout after 20 minutes of inactivity. This means once 20 minutes has elapsed since you last sent or received data from the server your session will close and you will have to log in again. Any unsaved data will be lost. For example, the timer starts once you open a patient record for data entry. Since data is transmitted back to the server only when you save the record, if it takes you longer than 20 minutes to enter the data your session will time out (and you will have to repeat the data entry). A way round this is to save the form and re-open it if you think you have take a while to do the entry. It is unlikely however that data entry of any eCRF should take more than 20 minutes to complete.|
