Research at LIBACS

Research at the Leeds Institute of Biomedical & Clinical Sciences comprises 6 Sections which encapsulate clinical themes (Gastrointestinal inflammation & tumorigenesis, Genetic disorders, Infection & immunity, Neuroscience, Perinatal medicine and Perioperative outcomes & technologies) that are underpinned by generic science technology strands (Animal models, Cell Biology, Gene regulation and Genomics). Staff within the Institute belong to a clinical theme and technology strand grouping by pursuing both fundamental mechanistic research with a disease interest.

Genetics

We are active in the study of a range of different human genetic pathologies and mechanisms. Our general belief is that quite deep insights into human biology are still to be had through the study of naturally-occurring genetically-determined phenotypes. While this has been so for many years, it continues to be a rich seam in the so-called "post-genomic era".

Research within Obstetrics & Gynaecology is based across LICAP and LIBACS, covering many facets of women’s health (and that of their babies), ranging from pregnancy complications, benign gynaecological disorders, through to cancer of the reproductive tract.
