Research in the School of Medicine focuses on areas of international excellence (Applied Health Research, Cancer and Pathology, Cardiovascular, Genes & Development, Medical Education & Musculoskeletal) that encompasses the full translational pathway from discovery science to applied health research, with the aim of improving patient and population health and wealth creation. 

The School has an annual research income of approximately £33m and well-established links with hospitals across Leeds and Bradford including a close working relationship with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) which is the UK’s second largest NHS Trust.
