Within the School of Dentistry, our vision is to use interdisciplinary expertise to understand the fundamental mechanisms of oral and other diseases, particularly musculoskeletal,in order to improve treatment, restore function and address the needs for prevention.
We have two principal research groups in Basic Dental Sciences and Clinical Dental Sciences. The groups reflect strength and leadership at international level and are strategically aligned to focus on our goal to underpin high quality translational research for patient benefit with world class basic and applied dental science.
Recently we have also introduced the Dental Education Research and Scholarship Group to increase research opportunities for clinical academic staff and to enhance research-led clinical education.
Clinicians and basic scientists from within the School of Dentistry and across the university work in partnership with academic collaborators, industry, charities and the NHS to address significant clinical challenges ensuring we deliver research excellence with economic and societal impacts.
