Florence Doku, originally from Ghana undertook the MA Psychotherapy and Counselling.
What made you choose MA Psychotherapy and Counselling at Leeds?
I had wanted to become a professionally well trained Psychotherapist and Counsellor for a long time now and the MA helped me fulfil my ambition of being there for others.
I chose the University of Leeds, as it is one of the few universities highly esteemed in Ghana. The other two are Oxford and Cambridge
What was the highlight of the programme?
The highlights were the challenges experienced during my journey and the support and encouragement recieved from lecturers, supervisors and colleagues. This helped me to fulfil my potential as I overcame various hurdles. I felt accepted unconditionally and in return I did the same for other peers. I suppose I've become more equipped at supporting and encouraging others in their various journeys.
Would you recommend MA Psychotherapy and Counselling to others?
I will surely recommend the course and the University to others. I don't even have to do this in Ghana since University of Leeds is so highly regarded.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
I plan to participate in a project in Ghana with the support of my supervisor from Leeds. My aim is to provide psychotherapuetic services for sexually abused young ladies with mental health issues.
