We are committed to giving the highest levels of support to our students and the historic Baines Wing is home to some of the most modern facilities in the UK, both on-site and on-line.
The Student Zones
The Student Zones comprise of two new, specially designed, areas for our students - a Study Zone and a Chillout Zone - designed and built following consultation and discussion with our student community.
The Study Zones
The Study Zone incorporates the latest interactive technology in two group learning pods, which enable students to work together on joint projects. The look and feel of this creates a traditional study environment with padded seating for small groups or individual use, in a soundproofed area.
The Chill Out Zone
The Chill out Zone provides a calm and relaxing environment for students to meet. The Zone includes sofas, easy chairs and a plasma TV and full wireless connectivity. It was recently upgraded to include new gallery walls, reflecting a range of art and memorabilia from Yorkshire, from artists such as David Hockney and Emily Sutton.
Clinical Skills Facilities
Kevin Kendrick Clinical Skills Suite
This recreates an actual hospital ward with beds, ancillary equipment and washing areas. Students can practice clinical procedures, and get a feel for hospital protocols and practice. The facilities are being upgraded and expanded to include a new simulated flat, with bedrooms, bathroom and living space, as well as new changing rooms and a new protection of vulnerable adults (POVA) facility. There will also be new Midwifery suites, and specific Social work, Mental health and manual handling facilities.
Miall Lecture Theatre
The modern Baines Wing represents a tasteful blend of Victorian architecture and includes the Miall lecture theatre (named after Louis Compton Miall, the first Professor of Biology at the University of Leeds) which seats around 100 people and has been restored to its former 1890's glory.
The Baines Wing Cafe
Friendly staff, a great range of food and and its own private courtyard. There are comfy chairs, shared PCs and longer opening hours meaning that Healthcare students can refuel after a long study day.
