Biomedical imaging is a rapidly expanding research area across the University and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) and is a key underpinning technology for many areas of research, ranging from microscopy and multimodal preclinical imaging to clinical imaging development and clinical trials. Imaging has been at the core of a number of recent high profile funding awards from the NIHR, BHF, EPSRC and MRC, including major investment in a new preclinical imaging facility and hyperpolarised MRI which will result in a step change in the academic standing of the University in this area. These investments provide unique opportunities for new translational research programmes.  Developing areas of research include: clinical imaging in cancer, working in conjunction with the recent investment in radiology and academic radiotherapy; translational cardiovascular MR imaging, expanding our internationally leading cardiac MRI programme to other imaging modalities; preclinical imaging modalities to support our current imaging capabilities in MRI, targeted irradiation/CT, combined fluorescence, radioisotope, x-ray and CT.
